You can apply for income insurance coverage with our online application, get approved, and even be immediately covered within the next few minutes. Please note that every application is underwritten individually. For some available products, we might refer your application to our underwriting partners. Under these circumstances, the process might extend to a few weeks, depending on specific requirements.

  • Your premium payment is determined based upon your amount of desired coverage, age, health, family medical history, and other factors. For a quick quote estimate, you can use our online widget on the homepage. It takes seconds and is completely free. There's no obligation to share any personal information to get a quote.

  • The benefit amount that you should get will always depend on your specific financial needs, your current savings, and your expected and ongoing lifestyle costs. There are a few rules of thumb that may be helpful for you when determining how much benefit amount to select. First, consider what is the minimum financial support you'd like to provide yourself and (if applicable) your family, to cover their day-to-day expenses. Second, factor in if you have any debt that you have to service. Third, subtract your savings and existing income insurance coverage if you have any from other sources. This should help you estimate the benefit amount to select. In case you need more support, please chat with one of our licensed agents, they're available to help!

  • We're all about speed and efficiency. Typically, getting from a quote to policy for income insurance can take up to six months! Instead, we use the sensitive information that you provide us during the application process to help our underwriting partners give you an instant decision in real-time. We don't ask for any information that is not necessary to provide you with an instant decision and avoid the lengthy process that you might encounter with traditional insurers. The information that you provide also helps us offer you the most accurate and best price that we can provide. We assure you that all of your data is stored securely and will never be sold to third parties.

  • Anyone between the ages of 21 and 65.

  • Our income insurance for self-employed is set at 2-years for now and cannot be changed. We're working hard on bringing more flexibility to our next product.

  • Asteya partnered with Stripe to make payment simple and secure. We don't collect your payment details, and we don't store your billing information. Stripe handles this. Also, your premium payment is directly sent to our insurance partners, who will issue your policy.

We'll never charge you without your consent. We'll only charge you when we issue your policy -- and on the policy effective date.

Currently, we accept the following forms of payment: Debit and Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, and Discover). We'll notify you if the credit card on file has expired -- this way, we can help ensure that there are no missed payments, which would cause your coverage to lapse.

  • Unfortunately, you can't change the standard covers of our income insurance for self-employed at this stage. Trust us, we're working hard on bringing more flexibility into our next product.

  • Unfortunately, you can't change the standard covers of our income insurance for self-employed at this stage. Trust us, we're working hard on bringing more flexibility into our next product.

  • Our income insurance product is a lump sum payout designed for the self-employed. Because the benefit is paid out all at once, there is no benefit period necessary for the product.

  • No medical exam is required to apply for an Asteya Income Insurance for the self-employed. All you have to do is answer a few simple medical questions during our application process to receive an income insurance policy.

  • Asteya's income insurance for the self-employed starts as low as $6/month, making it one of the most affordable products in the market. The premiums increase as the benefit amount you select increases. You can select what fits your budget as well as what would provide you with the best safety net in case an unforeseen health complication occurs.

  • Yes! We've created this insurance policy specifically with the self-employed in mind. It's beneficial for people who are self-employed because they're typically missing out on the workplace benefits offered through employers. An income insurance policy for the self-employed will provide an income replacement if a person is unable to work due to long term sickness or an accident.

  • It depends. An own-occupation insurance policy provides coverage if you become unable to perform the substantial and material duties of your covered occupation, even if you're still able to work in another occupation. However, it is very important to read how 'disabled' is defined in an insurance contract as the definition of own-occupation can be very fluid.

By contrast, "any occupation" coverage only provides total disability benefits if you are unable to work at all and in any occupation. We recommend carefully reading through your policy plan. Some policies that may appear to be "own-occupation" policies really function more like "any-occupation" policies. These so-called "occupational policies" will define "total disability" as your inability to perform "all duties" or "every duty" pertaining to your occupation.

  • We use a rigorous set of algorithms that tackle questions about you, your lifestyle, health, and medical history. We also use third-party integrations and other factors to underwrite policies as effectively as they would be with a medical exam.

  • At Asteya, we're focused on bringing value to you! By considering income insurance from us, you can benefit from:

    • Speed. We're the first company to issue instant policies - delivered to you in just a few minutes.
    • Simplicity. We don't require any past financial data or medical information from you. We trust what you say on your application and don't verify any of the information until you claim.
    • Trust. We are backed by A-rated carriers who have your back.
    • Affordability. We offer the most affordable income insurance product on the market.
  • At this current time, we don't allow changing the billing mode after you've purchased the policy. For example, if you select the billing mode of "Monthly" in your application, we will charge your account every month. Your billing date is based on the day of the month that your policy began. For example, if your policy is issued on January 17th, we'll charge your account on the 17th of each consecutive month. If your policy start date is on the last day of a month (i.e., January 31st), then we'll bill you on the previous day of the month in the consecutive months (i.e., February 28th).

  • Your policy is emailed to you immediately after you purchase it from our website. We're a paperless company.

  • Currently, we do allow refunds after you've canceled the policy. Refunds are calculated based on a pro-rata basis relative to the monthly anniversary date of your policy. For example, if your policy started on the 13th of January, and you paid your premium fully, and you decided to cancel your policy on the 23rd of May, then we refund you the remaining months starting the 13th of June and on. However, if you cancel on the 12th of May, then we will refund you the remaining months starting from the 13th of May.

  • The self-employed income insurance product is a lump sum product. It doesn't integrate with other disability benefits but can be bought alongside any other income insurance products with no restrictions, making it an excellent option for a supplemental insurance plan.

  • Your policy will end in the following situations:

    • You are injured or ill and permanently unable to return to your work. In this case, you'll receive the benefit provided by your policy. The policy ends when your illness or injury has been verified, and the benefit has been paid out.
    • You are still healthy and able to work, and the term of the policy finishes its duration and expires.
    • You cancel your policy willingly or stop paying the premiums.

Once the policy ends, you have the option to renew the policy at the end of the term. However, your premium for the renewal period might change.

  • In the case that you miss your due payment, we may be forced to cancel your policy. At Asteya, we offer a one-month grace period. We know that sometimes things don't go your way, that's why we'll notify you via email immediately when a payment is missed. If you cannot pay by the end of the grace period, after several other notifications from us, we'll have no other choice but to terminate your policy.

  • Your policy will remain in force as long as you pay promptly during your term. Leaving the US will not void your coverage. If you change jobs, you should let us know to make sure we have given you the coverage you need.

  • Please refer to your policy under "Exclusions".
  • After you checkout, we will send your policy to your registered email address, where you'll find all the policy details.

  • You can contact Asteya, your Agent of sale, or IDU for information on filing a potential claim.

  • Your policy price will not change during your policy term. However, the price may change when you renew your policy with us.

  • Yes. Like most insurance policies, pandemic diseases or pandemic-related health complications are not covered by Asteya income insurance plans.
